This was not my favorite Dewalt purchase. The other downside is that the motor diameter is almost the same as the grinding wheel itself. It's very difficult to use the grinding wheels as they are located too close to the motor housing. There is not a lot of room to manuever your work. I installed a 6" diameter wire brush on one side and could not keep the arbor nuts tightened. I should have saved up and Spent the extra money to purchase a Baldor grinder.
For small jobs, I have switched to a Dremel. This is a good grinder as far as grinders go, but not particularly useful for everyday use. I only use it for sharpening my lawn mower blade. I like the idea of clamping a small piece of metal, and then grinding away, rather than having my fingers close to the grinding wheels. Also, there is no speed control. That means you can not use it to sharpen anything that you care about, as the speed is way too fast. This is likely the least used tool in my shop.
It arrived in perfect condition, and he has it all set up in his current workshop. This was purchased as a birthday gift for my husband in anticipation of his new workshop now that he has retired. He picked it out but didn't realize I was ordering it. He states that keeping your tools sharpened makes all the difference in the world in their efficiency. The Amazon price was the best we found anywhere.
The Dewalt Bench grinder was shipped quickly. It's assembly was easy and it operates quietly and very smoothly. My primary use is sharping my mower blades (I have 5 acres to mow) which need to be sharp so cutting is good and there is less strain on the engine.
The assembly instructions do not match what comes in the box. I checked the plug, I had power. On the label it says "Made in China". This one is kind of a muted Orange. I just received this grinder from Amazon. If you simply push it to the on position like you would turn on a light switch it does not work.At the end of the day I have a brand new orange grinder that may or may not turn on when I want it to. I pushed the switch to turn it on and nothing. I put them where I thought they might do some good. After scratching my head assembling the tool rest, I was ready to plug it in.
The switch works intermittently. I could not tell any difference between the two. The first thing I noticed was that it is not the normal Dewalt Yellow color. I tried the switch again and it worked. The instructions state that there is a right and left tool rest. The directions did not tell me what to do with the extra star washers. If you push it hard and deliberate it will turn on. I can not recommend that anyone purchase this grinder.
